New experiences, expectations, procedures, rules, staff, and students have created a whole new culture on the YTS campus this year. On any given day, at any moment, onlookers can see students, and teachers alike, actively, safely, and respectfully engaged in not only academic learning, but social and emotional learning. This year, YTS staff is putting a huge emphasis on student engagement and interaction.
Statistics show that students who communicate, collaborate, and apply knowledge not only are more prepared for careers and college, but are more successful on state and district leveled assessments. Through the use of students working in groups and being pushed outside of their comfort zone, struggles turn into academic and life lessons. "Some of the most influential and remembered knowledge is what we must struggle to achieve" -JFK. With this wisdom in mind, staff members have committed to achieving excellence by implementing instructional structures that will allow students to persevere through struggles and be more successful learners in the future.
Due to this engagement piece, instructional rigor and expectations have been raised to meet and exceed state requirements. The theory behind this change is for all students, lucky enough to call themselves Sandgnats, to be able to academically compete with students from any school, district, or state in the country.
We are excited to begin our new journey to academic excellence and we hope that you too will join in the fight for the betterment of our beloved Sandgnats!
