Today, Yankeetown School Kindergarteners flipped their tassels and begin their educational trek onward to first grade. Parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, and community members gathered in the auditorium to watch these little Sandgnats show off how far they had come this year. The program began with a video which captured all the memories our kindergarteners made this year. Students then put on a great show with singing and even some choreographed sign language - it was hard to find a dry eye in the house.
Students were recognized for achievements they had made this year as well as this last nine weeks. Our kindergarten class is truly a group of high achievers; it was announced today they, as a group, have shown over two years worth of growth with their reading iReady scores! That kind of progress from young minds is incredible and a true testament to the power of high expectations, a stellar instructional team, and educational support from home and the community.
Today also marked the graduation of our favorite Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Paula Yaws, as she will embark upon the journey of retirement come the close of this school year. This year marks her 28th year at Yankeetown School and it was a bittersweet moment to watch her coach her babies through her last Kindergarten Graduation performance. Paula has been a dedicated and elite teacher for many years at YTS. The number of boo-boos she has fixed, hands she has held, and minds she has shaped are endless. She will be missed but always a monumental part of the Sandgnat family.
As we wrap up this year it is incredible how far we have come as a school, but seeing our littles make such huge strides only means we can go so much further as we move forward. Today Yankeetown school tips its hat to Kindergarten - we couldn’t be more proud of our babies, their teacher Mrs. Paula Yaws, and our Kindergarten ESP Mrs. Debbie Woodard!!! You guys ROCK!!!!
