Wednesday March 2nd, at Yankeetown School, students could be seen sporting some crazy hair in celebration of “Wacky Wednesday”!!
This week we are celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday and Read Across America. The National Education Association sponsors Read Across America every year as a way to challenge children far and wide to spread the joy that comes from reading a book! Read Across America partners with Dr. Seuss to show children how reading can allow you to travel, experience new things, and build an imagination like no other. The National Education Association’s holistic goal for their Read Across America event is to promote the fun of reading.
Yankeetown School is celebrating these two events all week long with themed dress-up days. Monday honored the book Fox in Socks, by encouraging students to wear their silliest or mismatched socks. Tuesday, we dressed in the color green for the popular title, Green Eggs And Ham. Today, Wednesday, March 2nd, is Wacky Wednesday, also a popular Seuss title, and was commemorated by students sporting their wacky or craziest hairdo. The week will continue in a Seussical theme with students coming to school on Thursday in a hat to show their love for the book Cat In The Hat! We close out the week wearing red and blue to represent those lovable fish from One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.
Here at Yankeetown School we not only love but understand the importance of reading and we want to make sure you never forget “you’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read with a child”!
