Student of the month is a new practice at Yankeetown School this year. Students are chosen by staff members on a monthly basis by exhibiting the character trait of the month. February’s trait was truthfulness and we were chosen as two members of the Yankeetown family that display that trait. Sandgnats that are chosen are recognized by attending a quick breakfast with Ms. Prescott and Mrs. Mills at the end of the month.
At the breakfast, students of the month receive a certificate and a Student of the Month Privilege Pass. With this pass, we can go outside, receive freeze pops, and participate in any PBS sponsored event for free! These passes will last the us one month and will expire when a new group of students are recognized. All students are eligible each month to be nominated for student of the month.
These recognitions and new privileges makes us feel positive because we are getting noticed by the staff of this campus and recognized for the choices we make. Our school year has been enhanced, compared to years past, because our positive choices now earn us more privileges on campus, and those privileges are teaching us responsibility for the future!
