Wednesday May 25, 2016 we, as YTS 4th-8th grade students, participated in what we call “club day activities”. The schedule for this day consists of a long 1st period focused on academics and then the opportunity to choose an activity to participate in for the next couple of hours till lunch and dismissal. Options this time were art with Mrs. Carson, campus conservation with Mr. Gatton, Mr. Al, Mr. Bartello, and Ms. Harmon, or reading for AR with Mrs. Sullivan.
I chose art with Mrs. Carson. In her room, we learned about vantage points (A vantage point is a place or position offering a good view of something). We had a choice to watch videos about vantage points that had been pulled up on the smartboard or free draw. For those who chose to watch the videos, Mrs. Carson would pause the video every now and then to explain how vantage points related to art.
Mrs. Carson also had a lot of drawing books! The books were laid out on a wooden table in her classroom and inside they taught you how to draw a specific subject. They were made available for those who decided that they did not want to draw pictures with vantage points. Those who chose to free draw had a choice to draw what was on their minds or draw something out one of the books - some even did comics!
At the end of the day we experienced an art class that provided us with other tools to move forward in our academic career, and for that we were thankful.
